China UnionPay becomes world's largest card system

The latest data released by China UnionPay indicates that the UnionPay cardsinternational transactions reached 11.8 trillion yuan (about 1.9 trillion US dollars) in thefirst quarter of 2015, while the number of VISA is 1.75 trillion US dollar over the sameperiod, meaning that China Unipay has become the world's largest bank card clearingorganization.
China UnionPay has issued more bank cards than VISA for many years, however, this wasthe first time it had exceeded VISA in transaction amount.
Currently, UnionPay cards can be used in 150 countries and regions outside China. It isaccepted by more than 26 million merchants in the world. About 1.8 million ATMs havebeen installed worldwide. The total number of UnionPay cards issued is more than 5billion. 40 foreign countries and regions have issued the card.
